Welcome to the Learning to Learn in Schools Phase 4 Project website.
This site aims to give information about the project and links to related work , as well as to provide teachers participating in the project with a resource and networking base which will support their work exploring what ‘Learning to Learn’ is in the classroom.
Learning to Learn in Schools Phase 4 started in May 2007 and has developed from the findings of Phase 3.
Our aims :
• To develop understanding of progression in Learning to Learn – in terms of knowledge, skills, dispositions and the development of learners’ autonomy
• To investigate issues in both scaling up and sustaining Learning to Learn as a development approach in schools -drawing in new schools to the existing network and mapping the process by which cultures change in classrooms and schools
• To continue to explore the role of enquiry in teachers’ and pupils’ learning
• To reflect upon and refine the role of an Higher Education Institution as a co-learner in this process and supporting schools in networks
• To look at the intersecting influences of families and communities on the development of lifelong learners
• To gather data on the relative impact of different Learning to Learn approaches on raising standards.
The research in Phase 4 is centres on four key research themes which arose out of Phase 3. These are being used as a structure which aims to bring some focus to the teachers’ research in school, but will also direct the cross project analysis completed by the University. The four strands are:
• Engaging in and with research
• Developing a language for learning
• Innovation and change
• Exploring the role of technology
It should be noted that these aims may change over time as our developing understandings change. If they do change, however, it will be a consultative process with the teachers.
This website includes a number of different areas:
